Behind the build: the journey to 500 homes

Hitting 500 homes across the Hutt Valley is a massive milestone for us – but it’s not just about the number. Every single one of those homes has a story, and behind each story are the people who made it happen.

From our very first project in 2018 through to today, this journey has been about much more than building houses. It’s about rolling up sleeves with local trades, leaning on long-time partners, and growing a team that cares about doing things right.

We still remember handing over the keys at 745 High Street in Boulcott back in 2018. A small start, but it lit the fire. Next came Rose Way in Waterloo (2019) – a really special one, as we were able to name the site after my late mum. That project meant a lot to us, and it still does.

Not long after, things began to speed up. We tackled Bloomfield Terrace and Barber Grove – at the time, Barber Grove felt huge with 19 homes. Around then we started bringing on some of our key staff, people who are still with us today. Together we delivered 48 Mills Street and 338 Oxford Terrace, and before long we were onto the big one – 1115 High Street with 40 homes. That project really pushed us, but it also showed what we were capable of.

Then came the boom years. The market was running hot, and we delivered site after site – 489 Riverside Drive, 35 Rata Street, and more across Wainuiomata, Naenae, Stokes Valley, and central Hutt.

2023 brought Matai Park, our largest development to date. What a milestone that was. We also completed our first Upper Hutt site at 43 Whakatiki Street, and introduced something new for us – dual key units.

These days, we’re more selective. We’re focusing as much as we can on central Hutt locations, while still bringing variety and affordability across the valley.

None of this happens without people. From the sparkies and plumbers to the roofers, painters, and landscapers – we’ve been lucky to work with so many local businesses who take as much pride in these homes as we do. Rain or shine, they’re on site, doing the mahi and making sure every detail is right.

And it’s not just the trades. We’ve built long-term partnerships with architects like the Voxell team, engineers, surveyors, and consultants who’ve helped us keep lifting the bar. Together, we’ve been able to keep improving so that each project is better than the last.

500 homes might carry the Faisandier name, but this milestone belongs to every single person who’s been part of the journey. Thousands of hours on site, hundreds of deliveries, endless conversations, problem-solving, and cups of coffee.

So to everyone who’s played a role – whether you swung a hammer, delivered materials, drew up plans, or helped a buyer into their first home – thank you. This is your milestone too.

We’re proud of 500, but we’re even more excited about what’s next. With more projects on the horizon and the same values driving us, we’ll keep working with people who share our passion for doing things properly and putting people first, and hopefully we can add another 500 homes in half the time.
